He studied music in Paris with René Leibowitz and afterwards with
Cristòfor Taltabull, a disciple of Max Reger - two figures who enabled
him to master those elements of contemporary music which most
interested him. He was a promoter of contemporary music in Barcelona in
the 60's and has taught many younger generation Catalan composers,
first at the Municipal Conservatory in Barcelona and from 1980 as
Director of the Conservatory in Badalona. Josep Soler is also known for
his essays, books and articles about music and composition.
